Hello. This is an odd question, but are you allowed to upload a picture in the 'upload a picture of you' section on the profile settings that ISN'T of you? For example, a picture of a cartoon character or maybe your family pet? I'm just being cautious of what I post in that picture since I cannot get a hold of a photo of myself.

You can upload any picture, but make sure it's not so big that it will massively stretch your column. Check your column afterward (refresh if you can't see the changes). Also, it's best not to upload images that you didn't create, as there may be copyright issues with them.

It's not a good idea to upload an actual picture of yourself anywhere on the Internet. It will be used against you in the future. I don't know why anyone here does it.

i answered some girls question about ouija boards, and she rated my answer a 5 and asked me another question about the ouija board in the little comment box.. but i dont know how to reply to her to answer her question..

i went back to the question, and her username is Nowhere on the page.. just the title of her question..

how do i reply to her?

i also use advicenators on my sidekick, not computer.. but it shouldnt make a difference i dont think..

You can't reply properly. For minor things, I usually just edit my answers, enclosing the edit in asterisks at the top of the answer to make it more noticeable. However, the asker will _not_ be notified when you edit your questions.

When I need to add important information to a question I have already answered, I will use an alternate account so that the asker is notified. Alternate accounts are not against the rules as long as you disclose the fact that the account is an alt and you don't use it to evade a ban.

How do you make your own link to put on your column????? Thanks =]

Like any other link.

Link text

The URL should start with http, and it should not include any s or []s. This is an example of a proper URL (remove the space):
http:// www.advicenators.com/answer.php?q=564574

how do you put music on a pantech matrix????

See my answer here:
http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?q=555206

If a new drive is not created in "My Computer", try installing these drivers:

I was wondering how you start your own forum on here. Thanks =]

Go to your column. Click "ask me a question". Copy the number at the end of the URL. Put that number at the end of this URL:
www.advicenators.com/talkaboutme.php?userboard_id=

My "Ask me a question" URL is:
www.advicenators.com/question.php?u=38985
From that you determine my user ID:
38985
And turn that into a forum URL:
www.advicenators.com/talkaboutme.php?userboard_id=38985

How do u put a picture in a question on here?

You can't embed images. Just post a link to an image at imageshack.us or something. *Don't* include embed code which looks like or [img src=asdf]. Only include the plain, direct URL.

If I want to delete a question that I answered on my advice column, how do I do that? I don't want it to show up on my advice column anymore. Thanks

The answer needs to be deleted, which you can't do yourself. If you file an abuse report, a moderator will probably delete it:
http://www.advicenators.com/abuse.php

Make it clear that this is not an abuse-related problem, that the answer is yours, and give a good reason for why you want it to be deleted.

I am having a hard time downloading AIM 65.
I get! "cannot complete download error code is 2008."
Why is this happening? What can I do about it?

That is not the most recent version. Try downloading the most recent version (6.8) to see if that works.

If it doesn't, try downloading AIM 6.8 directly from here:
http://www.oldversion.com/download/aim6884.exe
Or AIM 6.5 here:

Could you delete your name from showing up on myspace band chat rooms? How come each time that you go into that same page it still has this thing that says your name on it? ---Like the ones by the age and sex.

Ask me another question with a link to a public page where this happens. They could be using a number of methods.

Is it really true that a laptop that do not say dual processor is real slow. Because we went in to look at lap tops and the sales guy there kept saying that the one we wanted that was cheap at best buy was real slow. What does he mean by slow it takes an hour for it to start up? Thanks for help. What are they talking about that is slow why would a manufacturer create a slow laptop. But then I thought they could be lying cause the OS is windows vista isn't that a faster OS cause its new. Were they lying to me to make me buy those 700 dollar ones.

Read my guide here for information on computer specs:
http://www.advicenators.com/talkaboutmetopic.php?t=759&userboard_id=38985

Dual-core processors are more efficient than single-core processors, so they are usually faster. A single-core processor can be faster than a dual-core, but that is rarely the case.

A computer with at least 1.8GHz dual-core/3.2GHz single-core and 2GB RAM will be fast enough for you. It will start in 1-2 minutes.

Vista takes up more resources than XP because it has more features. You are expected to buy a faster computer every few years, so the OSs get bigger and bigger. If you bought a Windows 95 machine and upgraded the OS but not the computer every time a new one came out, it would get progressively slower, and wouldn't even run at this point.

Has anyone else noticed that questions are the same? I mean I love this site, but latly i've been getting bored because every question is the same!! It bothers me. Like 13 year olds talking about boyfriends, friends, and sex. It's like how difficult is your life at 13?! Anyone else feel the same? ANd how can i make this site more interesting for me?

Those questions get the most answers. Most Advicenators users like those questions, even if they have been asked 1000 times.

Your questions are not much better. I rate most of your questions 1 or 2. Here are some of your questions that I've rated 1:

I purchased the usb cable for my Pantech Matrix. It didn't come with any software, and when I hooked it up to my computer it asks for a driver. There was a link on the AT&T site that someone had put there for the driver, but the link is broke. Does anyone know where I can find this driver? I want to add music ot my phone and I tried it with my SD card and that didn't work either. Any help would be appreciated.

Here are two Pantech Drivers I found online. I have no idea if they work. The driver that you were linked to is included.
http://drop.io/hzmctcn/asset/pantechdrivers
If that link doesn't work, use one of these (it's the same file):
http://www.divshare.com/download/6237140-488
http://in.solit.us/archives/download/158079

If that doesn't work, read this forum thread:
http://tinyurl.com/7jll2a
It might be your cable.

ok
for some reason i keep trying to upload a picture of myself to my advice column but...
it keeps saying they were not allowed to upload because it is bigger than 15k
the thing is that it is really small so i dont know why it keeps saying that
any suggestions on what to do??
thank you in advance and any help is appreciated.

15k (kilobytes) is the amount of data in your picture, not its physical size. There are more 1s and 0s in your picture than Advicenators wants to store. Most likely your picture is an uncompressed format like BMP, which stores data very inefficiently. MS paint saves only in BMP format, for example.

You can use images with any amount of data if you first upload the picture to a service such as:
http://imageshack.us
http://tinypic.com
http://hotlinkfiles.com
Just put the "direct image URL" given to you from those sites in the "URL of a picture of you" section of "profile settings". Make sure you use just the URL, not any HTML. You should not put any angle brackets () in your Profile Settings, as it won't work and it could mess up that page.

Alternatively, you can make your image use less data by converting it to a different format. To do so, download and install Irfanview:
http://www.irfanview.com/
Open your image in Irfanview. Go to file -> save as. You can change the format in the second dropdown box. If your image is a picture of real things (from a camera), save in the "JPG - JPG/JPEG Format". If your image is anything else, save it in the "PNG - Portable Network Graphics" format. Unless your image is huge in dimensions or extremely complex, either of these formats will surely shrink it to below 15KB, without too much loss in quality.

can anyone here see who asked what question? or can only certain people (paid accounts?) see details of people who ask questions like if theyre a moderator or not and how many questions they ask?

These people know which account asks which question:
DangerNerd
FernGully
hailebop
rainbowcherrie
FrEe2bMe
Southern_Chickety
MaxwellsSilverHammer
younggrandma

Of those, 5 are active.

Paid accounts see this:
http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=paidlh3.png

"See more questions" gives a list of the last 200 *public* questions you asked, and it doesn't show deleted questions.

can you see more questions beyond page 10 here: http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php

No. Older questions still exist, they just aren't linked from the main qview.php page.

You tried to upload a picture, but it was greater than 15K in filesize so it wasn't uploaded.

is what it says when i try to put my pic up on this site but i dont see why it does that my pics are really small and they are not big so help me out thx

"15k" does not refer to the dimensions of the image. It's the space the image takes up on your hard drive, in bytes. Your picture must be under 15 kilobytes(15360 bytes) to be uploaded directly to Advicenators. You can see the size of any file by right clicking it and going to "properties". "Size" is the real size, you can ignore "size on disk".

To reduce the size, use Irfanview to convert to JPEG(if it's a picture from a camera) or PNG(if it's anything else, such as a drawing). Download:
http://www.irfanview.com/
You convert by opening the image in Irfanview and then going to File -> Save as... Then choose the type in the bottom dropdown.

Alternatively, you can upload the image to an external image host, like tinypic or hotlinkfiles:
http://tinypic.com
http://hotlinkfiles.com

i don't want to be a level 1 anymore. I don't know why...i just don't like it i don't like the responsibility that comes with it. is there anyway i can like stop being one. i don't want to get reported or anything like that i just want to know if i can just go and hit a button to stop being one.

No, there isn't. Ask a L2+ to ban you for an hour. That will remove your moderator status.
