advice

Okay, well i'm at that age where i need to decide what i'm doing for life. i've changed my mind so many times but the one thing i keep coming back to is beauty. i am soo fascinated with it and people ask me to do their hair and makeup for special events and just because! people love my work especially my friends. i've done events such as senior portrait photoshoots, homecoming, prom, etc.
right now i am currently 17 years old and i am just finishing my junior year of high school. I will be applying to colleges in october or november. i don't know what to do though.. i come from a VERY wealthy family and they run a dental business and my parents want to see me as successful as them so their pushing me to go to college to become a dr or PA but i really want to do beauty. They tell me that hair stylists/ make up artists earn 20,000 a year which can barely cover plumbing, water bills, cell phone bills, heat etc. i feel like their exaggerating a bit but they could be right?
all i want to do is be happy. and i know, i know that if i end up going to beauty school i would be SO happy!!!!!! :) it make smile thinking about it, but what also makes me sad is thinking i'm selfish because if i do end up going to beauty school and becoming a hairstylist/ makeupartist, i wouldn't give my future children the life i had growing up.. i had everything. i currently live in a huge mansion not to exaggerate (my parents are very materialistic and showy people).
i feel like all i want to do is make myself happy and i'm scared that right now i believe becoming a beautician would make me happy but what if in the future when i see my kids wanting things i can't afford would make me UNHAPPY. someone please help me:( i'm absolutely going crazy.
my dad gave me the idea to get a dental hygienist license and work for him (family business), that way i could never get fired and make $50 an hour...... he says teeth are beauty related somewhat and i think thats not so bad of an idea, but could i still go to beauty school being a hygienist?
somebody just help me, i am SO confused and lost....

I am actually a Pre-Dental student, so I know a bit about the dental hygienist system...It will take about 2-3 years of schooling to be a hygienist. Now I don't know about beauty school, but I have heard it is around one year. I don't know how accurate this is, but for the most part, I would say you need about half the time for beauty school than the dental hygienist program.

So, think about what you would rather do with your life. You could always start out doing beauty school, work in a salon for a bit and get settled with your life as an adult, and then go do the dental program when you are around 20 years old. This is just a suggestion/my opinion. The reverse (dental than beauty school) doesn't seem like as good as a route.

Where would you rather see yourself iwhen you are 30 - a beauty salon or a dentist's office?
What about when you're 40, where can you picture yourself then?

Think deeply about these 2 questions^^, and feel free to ask me anything else on your decision process - such as anything else about dental offices etc.
Good luck:) xx
