im getting a labtop for christmas for college..i know nothing about computers other than my current labtop is huge and the slowest thing ever. any suggestions on what kind? i dont want a clunker so sleek and fast? is apple good for that price? or any cheaper suggestions/what to look for in one (link)

I have had my Toshiba for 2 years and I love it. I haven't had any problems and it still runs like new, definitely the best laptop I've ever owned. Everyone will always have their own opinion though. Apple is always a great way to go if you are really into apple products because they generally all work the same way. They are super expensive though and you can definitely get a better deal with a different brand. I would go with either Toshiba or HP because they are the most popular and always have great reviews. I WOULD NOT go with dell, they are talked up often and commonly bought but not long lasting. I'd also recommend going to Best Buy or a similar electronic store and talking to an employee there who will know more about the computers. Let he/she know what you want what you are going to be using it for and ask for a suggestion from them.
