I am thinking about doing the Master Cleanse (also known as the Lemonade Diet). I was wondering if anybody who has done the cleanse could share their insight on the whole experience (was it worth it, did you loose a lot of weight, did the weight stay off/come off quickly).
I am 20 years old, 5'4 and about 130 pounds. I am trying to shed some extra weight that I put on at school this year. I have been eating very healthily- no junk food at all, and running 1.5-2 miles each day, but the scale does not seem to be budging (i know, i know - patience). But I am frustrated so I wanted to use the cleanse as a good jump start.
I would really appreciate any advice/insight you could share!
Thanks! (link)

I've done the master cleanse before, and it's actually a very effective and beneficial cleanse/fast. I don't remember how much weight I lost, but it was significant enough to make me happy, and the cleanse made me feel great. I didn't expect the last part!
A few things to keep in mind: 1) Stick to the diet!! Absolutely positively crucial. No cheating whatsoever (like toast or a cracker), because the magic of the cleanse is more than physical; it's chemical and requires specific ingredients for a reason. 2) The first couple days suck! You will feel better around day 3, but I started feeling a little weak around day 7. Good news is you'll wonder at times how it's possible to have so much energy on your weird lemon concoction diet. It's amazing. 3) Don't be surprised if there's a little emotional purging, too. My friends who did the cleanse warned me and I experienced the same thing. Cleansing your body has a psychological effect as well, but it's a good thing. Your mind and body are both getting a kick in the pants. 4) Avoid the pre-mixed 'master cleanse' sets with pre-mixed/pre-prepared lemon/maple/whatever concoction. I've heard from lots of people that the lemons have to be fresh, you need to use specifically grade b maple syrup, etc, to get the proper enzymes. 5) Get the original Master Cleanse book by Stanley Burroughs (guy that created it) and use that. It's super short and super helpful and answers a lot of questions, gives you a history, tells you "why" this and that. It's like your little diet bible.
I hope that helped! Lots of people do this cleanse who don't need to lose weight, usually for its health benefits, so I have no real objection to it. People have fasted for centuries for spiritual, mental, and physical health and clarity. The book will also tell you more about that stuff. Good luck!!!
