Hey, I'm Melody! I've been giving advice on and off since 2003. I'm a 23 year old military wife, expecting a baby boy in August, and working on my Bachelor's degree. :)

Oh, and ask me anything!

Advice

hello, i am skinny, i am only a size 8-10
(clothes wise) and i am happy with that, but my stomach is like getting bigger like a bump (as if i am pregnant which i am not) and i really don’t like it, and i want to get rid of it.
i have looked on the internet and there are loads of different things and i don’t know what to believe, so please can anyone give me tips of what really works!
does anyone else share my problem??
and how do i get a flat stomach??
how long would it take ???

and if you have tried anything and works tell me i really want to know.
Thanks

I have the same problem, and I always have. You have a "pot belly" It doesn't mean you're fat, but it could be caused from a number of things.

Pot bellies can be hereditary. Look at your family, and see if pot bellies are common on either your mom or your dad's side. If they are, you will probably never have a completely flat stomach, so it's better to just embrace it :)

Are you regular? Do you go to bathroom at least once a day? If not that is probably the cause. Be sure to have a lot of fiber in your diet, and eat a lot of fruit. If you have trouble going to the bathroom on your own, start using stool softeners.

It could be water weight. If it happens more right before you start your period, then this is probably the cause. There are pills, powders, drinks, etc. that you can buy at vitamin or health stores that will "flush" out your system. You should try those if this is what you think it might be.

Caffeine also causes your stomach to swell. If you drink a lot of soda or coffee then try cutting back. Don't eat foods with a lot of sodium in them either.

I have read that doing a million crunches, sit ups, or any core strenghtening excersises won't do any good unless you do cardio as well. So try walking or running at least once a day if you can, and do some ab workouts if you feel you need them. This will make you healthier, but I doubt it will make a big difference as far as your pot belly goes.

Most importantly, don't binge eat. Don't go all day without eating and then eat a huge meal. That will make you bloat. Instead eat four small meals a day.

Good luck!
