i have a friend who is moving to NYC in a week and im planning on visiting her soon after. i was wondering what stores offer really great deals on clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. we both really love the store forever 21 and hate expensive brand name clothes. i live just outside new york, and i know the city fairly well. i know about canal street, but anything else like that would be fun.
also, any other fun things we can do (nothing tourist-y like the central park zoo, or times square, which we will probably do anyways) would be great! thanks! (link)

As far as fun things to do, I suggest you check out battery park, at the southern tip of Manhattan. It's not too "tourist-y" and during some months there are Sunset Walks, where a guide will have special binoculars where you can view the sun, close up, and talk about different species of fauna and flora that make their home in battery park.
If you're into massages and spas I recommend Aphrodite Skin Care located on 811 Lexington Ave, in Midtown. There you can get a facial or massage for, what I consider, to be good prices for the City.
As far as food goes, if you like Italian cuisine, a stop by Little Italy is a must... I knew of a really good restaurant that had a very attentive host called Fabrizio... but sadly I dont remember the name :-(
If you happen to be in the east village and LOVe LOVE LOVE pastries, especially Italian Pasticcerias I recommend Veniero's on 342 E 11th St. To die for.
