So I'm doing this report and have to use MLA. I looked it up online and stuff but its kinda confusing. I know I have to use time new romans size 12. Does it have to be double spaced? I'm in 9th grade so I'm just learning how to use this. Please help me as much as you can. Thanks! Any other info would be nice too.
Yes, it does need to be double spaced (your actual report as well as your works cited). I agree that MLA is kind of tricky... I use www.citationmachine.net most of the time to cite things. It's pretty easy to plug in the information on that website. Also, if you have to use parenthetical citation in your report (which means that you have a cite after basically every sentence), that can be a little bit weird. Here is an example that I made up:
Studies show that whole grain food items should constitute 50% of the average person's grain intake (Smith 250).
That cite means that I got that from a book written by someone whose last name is Smith, and I got that particular info from page 250. That book doesn't actually exist though, it was just an example. So be careful about where exactly you put your parentheses and your spaces. There should be no comma between the author's last name and the page number.
Some teachers are more particular about certain things than others, so don't hesitate to ask your teacher what he/she wants, if you have specific questions. Actually, try to finish your report a little early and see if you can take it in to your teacher and have them check the formatting. It can't hurt :)
