I heard somewhere that you shouldn't do crunches or any other ab workout until you have burned off the layer of fat on your stomach. Is this true?
It depends on you personally. If you are really overweight, then you should try to burn the fat off by doing cardio, running, swimming, aerobics, etc. before you try to tone your abs. That way, you can see better results.
However, if you are pretty normal sized (not necessarily Hollister skinny but maybe a size medium in t-shirts) and you want abs, go ahead and start doing crunches/situps. Some people get really frustrated when they don't get results from just crunches, so it definitely won't hurt to try to burn the fat off anyway. I think that if you start doing cardio a few weeks before you start doing abs, it will seem easier for you. But you don't absolutely have to do that if you are anti-cardio.
(Rating: 5) Thank you. I wasn't sure because I keep hearing different things. That makes sense though.
