Q: I apologize if this is in the wrong category first off.
Ok so...
I'm fifteen (female) and I guess you could just say that I'm worried. I'm worried about the future. I already know what I want as a career...or at least I did. But then I got to thinking how that's it. That's what I'll do for the rest of my life. Like, I can't just keep going back and starting over with a new career twenty or thirty times. I only have one lifetime. Then that's it. I mean, what happens after school? That's all I've ever known and I'm scared about how my life's going to turn out. Nobody can tell me what I should do with my life, it's all up to me. And that scares me. What if I make a wrong decision?
There's just so many different things that interest me, but I know that I can't just keep all of them for the rest of my life. As a career I mean. For instance, I have a passion for music, but don't think I have what it takes to pursue that as a career. But, I don't want to give it up completely. I fear that once my life gets started, I won't be able to play music as much. I look at my mom, and how she used to love painting. But after she had kids and got caught up with work and stuff, she doesn't paint anymore.
I'm just concerned at how my life might turn out. I'm worried that I'll look back in thirty or forty years and wonder why I wasted half my life away. =\
And I know that I don't have to pick my career right now because I'm only fifteen, but really...college is three short years away (I'm an upcoming sophomore). I'm just scared.

I know how scary it can be to think of all that because I've been there. After I graduated high school I was so scared, I didn't want to think of life ahead and how much there was to do and all of the choices I had to make.
But I promise you, it'll be okay...
I know you wish you had answers and I know when you think about things like that you feel like time is just flying by, but trust me when I tell you that the best thing you can do is, take a step back, take a deep breath, and relax. Life is going to happen on it's own and all of those things are honestly out of your control, no matter which way you spin it. You have the choice to make sure you go to college and do your work and take it seriously to have a good life, but no one knows where they are going to end up in 3-5 years even if they have an idea...
Three years may seem short, but instead of worring about them you should just enjoy them, don't think about what's going to happen later, now. Because then I do think you will look back on your life and think you wasted half your life away.
You are young so you DO have plenty of time.
Honestly, even when people get into college they change thier majors ALL the time. I've changed mine twice now. That's the good thing about it. Your allowed to change your mind and try new things out so that you CAN find out what your very passionate about that you WON'T mind spending the rest of your life doing...
Just because school is nearing an end whether it be high school or college, doesn't mean your life is over and you need to know what your going to be doing everyday for the rest of your life.
Live day by day and do that best you can, don't worry because whether you worry or not things will still happen. You seem to care about your future so I don't think you'll be messing it up in any way any time soon. Enjoy being in high school now, and when you get to college enjoy that too. You'll prob go through a few jobs like most teenagers do before you find one you love, and that's okay.
I know keep saying it but just relax, your going to be fine, I promise. I literaly went through the same thing and I worried way to much and I wish I hadn't because everything is alright, and I'm living life day by day with dreams of what I'd like to do and the directions I'd like to go but, if things change then, they change, and I'll worry about it when it happens and cross that bridge if and when the time comes.
If music is something you like, try getting more involved or looking at majors that have to do with music so that you know when you hit college they'd be some things you'd like to try, and try some other hobbies you have too. If you don't like them, change them. There is nothing set and stone and no rule that says once you make once choice your stuck with it for the rest of your life... If there were a rule like that, I've broken it a few times already. (haha) =)
Making bad choices are a part of growing up and learning. If you never make a mistake, how are you supposed to learn on your own? I'm proud of every mistake I've made because it's brought me where I am today. If you make a wrong decision its okay. You'll have learned something and can grow from it. Even if you think you can mess up your whole future now, you can't. Unless you really do silly things like serious drugs or getting pregnant, now those WILL change your future, but not knowing what you want to do with the rest of your life right now won't. I think if you don't think about it as much and you just enjoy your time in high school, you'll figure it out...
Also, try not to think of the rest of your life as over. Think positivley about things like the future and not so much a huge commitment. You do only have one life time but you can change your mind as many times as you want whether you think you can or not. Becuase my parents and family told me the same thing I'm telling you. It all seems scary because every new beginning does. =)
Good luck and I hope I could at least help a little. =)

Hey! =) I really love my life and the things and people in it. I love fashion, make-up, going out, dancing, teaching dance, and being with my friends and family. I feel very blessed for the things I have. It took me a while to get to this point though and I know that growing up, and even people my age, you need advice about certain things every now and then. I've always had people give me advice about things and I've been able to use their advice through my own experience and mistakes and come up with some of my own things. And now I'm the one always helping my friends out. I always have new ideas that I love to share. And well, I can't promise I'll always be able to help or give you the answer you're looking for but, I'll definitely do my best. =)
Also, whether you ask me a question in my inbox or I answer one alone I normally ALWAYS add in my experiences because for me, I like to know when people can relate and aren't just guessing, it's easier when someone has actually been through it. And I'm not going to do any favors by lying, so I am ALWAYS going to be honest. But keep in mind just becasue of my experience and my honesty does not mean I am always right and I understand that. Feedback is appreciated to know what I can work on with certain answers, not demanded.
