I'm a mean-spirited, self-loathing, misanthropic, unemployed, homeless, drop-out, vagrant, alcoholic and evidently one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. At least that's what i'm told.

Some of you may get advice, some of you may get incoherent blocks of what you could guess to be english words, and some may just get angry tangents. Either way, read it. I don't care about your ratings of it - i'd rather know if my advice worked out.

Does anybody know about how much a good quality acoustic guitar costs? I've been playing for about 5 years on my cheap "just starting out" guitar and I think it's time for an upgrade. The only problem is, I really don't know what I'm looking for. I've already googled it, but obviously that didn't help considering I, once again, don't know what I should be looking for in a quality guitar.

So, does anyone have any recommendations? Any links (other than google) would be much appreciated, but I'd also prefer someone who knows what they're talking about to answer...
Thanks! (link)
It depends on what you like in a guitar and how much you're willing to spend. I still play my "just starting out" guitar - but I do own quite a few others.

Seagulls-

Are really nice and fun to play, that model is fairly decently priced and will treat you well. I had a roommate who owned one and I played it more than any guitar I own.

Ovations-
(http://www.ovationguitars.com/?fa=detail&mid=1806)

Produce a really different sound, they look kind of cheap and they're hard to play without a strap (unless you're sitting down). They are however, my favorite brand of acoustic guitars. Really recommended.

Alvarez-
(http://www.alvarezguitars.com/prod_page.php?SeriesID=4&ItemID=75)

Are the least recommended of the three, but they are still really good for the money. I know a lot of traveling folk musicians and a good deal of them use Alvarez.

However! No advice anyone here can give you is going to be more beneficial than you going down to your local music store and trying out guitars yourself. Everyone wants different things out of their instrument.

Good luck.
