If one's last name is Gallagher, or any similar spelling, what nationality would he or she most likely be?

I'm going to agree that it is most likely British or Irish. The name Gallagher reminds me of Liam and Noel Gallagher, who are in the British band Oasis. If you're doing a project on your genealogy (I had to do one earlier this year), here are some good sites for you:
