First I would like to point out that I'm not as ghostly white as my picture looks. I actually have a really nice tan. :)

Hey, I just read this for the first time in a long time and I realized I sounded like a complete female Rainman. Anyway, I'm pretty much amazing, haha. I love to help people out with minor or major problems, so you ask me anything and I will answer it to the best of my ability! My favorite topics to give advice on are DEBATE, FRIENDS, POLITICS, MUSIC, and SPORTS (a recent thing!). I'm a typical Texas (college) football fan. That's pretty much it, so get to asking questions and stop reading this! :)

I wasn't sure what category to put this in, but I suppose this one will do.

Last night my cousin pierced my lip, and yes - I had permission. But I've been wondering what I should do now. She explained to me what she did, which I understand.

The stud I have in now is actually an extremely uncomfortable earring - but it's what we put in when we pulled the needle/string through my lip.

Does anyone have any cleaning tips?
Any preferences towards what kind of ring I should get?
Any information they'd like to share at all?

Here's what it looks like now...

Ever hear of the "cheese grater effect?" If not, then let me tell you about it. When you get facial piercings (such as the tongue, lip, monroe, medusa, etc.) you need to have a certain gauge. You need atleast a 16 gauge. A regular earring is- 1. not the right gauge and- 2. not made out of the right material. Okay, so now to the cheese grater effect. It's when you put a regular earring in a piercing and over time it cuts, yes CUTS, through the skin, causing a huge, ugly scar (did I mention it's excruciatingly painful?). Your mouth will not only reject this piercing, but you can also get a serious infection. If you REALLY want this lip piercing I suggest you, right now, find a piece of jewelry made out of SURGICAL STEEL or something along those lines and disinfect it. If you don't, in a few days you will have an infection and it will, also, be extremely painful. You should take the earring out and wait for it to heal (which, by the way, if you don't put neosporin directly on it after you take it out, it WILL scar) then go get it done by a professional. Also, if you decide to keep it in and the gauge it the pain will be unbearable even if you have a high pain tolerance, trust me, I know from experience (tried to gauge mine from a 16 to a 14 and I was on my knees, crying, because it hurt so bad, and I love pain!). Aside from all of the pain and infections, anything you put in it will rub against your teeth and wear down the enamel on them. My uncle makes dentures and he says the majority of the dentures he makes are for people who have piercings in or around their mouth.

Take everything I've said to heart, and if you still want to keep the piercing, then clean it with UNscented anti-bacterial soap. You can also clean it with sea salt. Just put a bit in a small cup with water, warm it up in the microwave, wait for the crystals to dissolve, and then hold the cup around your mouth and let the water sit on the piercing for 2 min. Oh and DO NOT forget to mouth wash (listerine is best!) for 30 FULL seconds after EVERY meal, when you wake up, and before you go to sleep.

Good luck with your piercing!

Thanks, but I already knew all of that. I did research before I even considered the piercing.

The earring was only painful because of the charm on the end of it. It was a star, leaving an indent on my face.

The earing was too small to sit in the hole. My hole is BIGGER than the two my cousin has done to herself and hers are 16's, but thanks anyway.
