For Literature I have to write an essay comparing a scene from Apocalypse Now with the book Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad. We are to focus on the extract from Apocalypse Now, but we can talk about the book as a whole. The teacher hasn't given us much assistance on how to write this, because we're rushed for time at the moment. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me the right structure for writing an essay like this, what kind of things I should mention, whether to compare it, etc. I'm not sure whether to talk about the extract and compare how its changed to a similar scene in the book, or whether to talk about how the themes have been adapted. I'm completely lost basically. lol.

The length of the essay would be a nice addition in helping me give you advice.
Anyway, first paragraph. Outline what you're going to say. Be it you talking about the themes, or something else.
Second para - tell them what you said above, just go into detail. Usually, just describe the book or the movie alone in this paragraph. Last sentence or two should lead into you comparing the book to movie, or movie to book.
Third para - you're comparing this scene or theme to the one stated above.
Fourth para - conclusion. Sum up what you said above. State again why they are the similar and sum it all up with a nice ending.
If the essay is supposed to be longer, repeat the formula in the second and third paragraphs above, just spruce it up a bit. Compare a few things to one another, and span it out across a few paragraphs instead of just two.
