Hey, I just read this for the first time in a long time and I realized I sounded like a complete female Rainman. Anyway, I'm pretty much amazing, haha. one of my friends chinchilla's is poorly, hes a male adult, but were not to sure of the age anywhere between 5 and 10 years.
Hes been lying down all day and hasnt eaten much, she tried a him with a raisin (for energy) but he didnt touch it and she tried him with water, he had a bit of that. Hes really weak and cant move about AT all. she put him back in his cage not long ago and his son jumped on him so she took him back out. my friends mum won't let her take him to the vets.
we know the life expectancy is 10-15 years but we dont want to think the worst of it because it might be something else.. what could it be? any advice??

If he is kept in a place that is warmer than 65 degrees he could be dehydrated. If that's the case then give him some warm water with sugar in it (disolve the sugar before he drinks it). If that doesn't work take him to the vet. immidiatley because when chins get sick they could die. The problem could also be a poorly kept cage. That's one of the main things that makes chins sick. They need their cages cleaned atleast twice a week if not more. If your friend hasn't had him that long then the previous owner could have not kept him clean or wet his fur. NEVER WASH A CHINCHILLA WITH WATER! ALWAYS WITH CHINCHILLA DUST! it takes atleast 5 days for their coats to dry depending on thickness.

Thanks, we already knew all that, shes had chinchillas for ages now n knows all the basic care n stuff.. we checked all that out and none of that is the problem.. thankyou anywayz
