Party and Unfinished Basement?
So I'm turning seventeen in a couple months :) I definitely want to have a party because I lovee parties and I haven't had one since elementary school.
I have a big, beautiful house, but the only problem is that I don't have a finished basement. At every single sweet sixteen or party I've been to, everyone just goes to the basement and that's where all the fun happens, you know? The basement is the place where it's enclosed and people can really let loose with their dancing (i.e., grinding).
My kitchen and living room are connected, which is nice in that I don't have to worry about people going upstairs and downstairs and whatnot. However, it's pretty open, if you catch my drift. Everything is really open. So, as a result, people might feel discouraged from dancing, I feel like, even with the lights off and even if they have glowsticks.
I wanted to have a party at my house and not go through the trouble of renting a place out, etc., but what do you guys think? My entire downstairs is completely connected with passageways -- there aren't even doors to enclose areas. So, for instance, my foyer connects to my kitchen and formal living room, both of which connect to my informal living room. The only doored rooms are the laundry room and back bedroom, both of which are too far from the living rooms themselves, and I don't want people going back there. I don't want people to feel awkward, but there is NO way I can get my basement finished JUST for the party. It would be too expensive, and I can't have people down there without it being finished because it's full of spiders and there are no real lights. My only option is to have it in the real downstairs.
I'm planning on inviting about 20-30 people, but do you think that people would feel awkward dancing in an open setting like that? My parents would be upstairs, so it's not like they would be coming up and down every two seconds to disturb us as we dance. If I invite enough people and keep the lights off with glowsticks, people will still dance, right, and not feel awkward? Is there anything I can do? I feel so awkward that I'm the only one who doesn't have a finished basement among all my friends despite the fact that I have a beautiful house :(

well as a person who feels awkward dancing at party i can say that i think having it downstair would be the best. keep it dark, use glow sticks. people also might be more comfortable if they were wearing costumes or sunglasses or sumthing..
and also maybe dont tell people your parents are upstaris, just so they dont feel worried.
and i think the more pople, the less uncomfortable the dancing is.
so try and get as many people as your house can hold.
