Fake Advicenator E-mails
Fake Advicenator E-mails

Hello everyone,

It has recently come to our attention that people are getting e-mails like the one listed below. These messages DO NOT come from anyone here at advicenators.com.

These are the same scam e-mails that try to trick people into giving up their account info everywhere else.

I get these daily for yahoo, hotmail, GMail, etc... Now, apparently, we have hit the big-time since they are targeting us.

Please, if you are unsure of an e-mail that appears to come from here, forward it to dangernerd@gmail.com, and I will let you know for sure if it is legitimate or otherwise. One helpful hint: E-mails from the Advicenators.com system do NOT EVER HAVE ATTACHEMENTS.

Thank you for doing your part in keeping the net safe.

Here is the example message:

"Dear Customer,

This e-mail was send by advicenators.com to notify you that we have temporanly prevented access to your account.
We have reasons to beleive that your account may have been accessed by someone else.
Please see the attached document and Follow instructions.

(C) advicenators.com support"

Making it easier to answer more questions?
Making it easier to answer more questions?

When you answer a question you will now see the text below on the page that thanks you for your answer:

"Want to answer MORE questions?

Click here and we will pick one for you!

(You will ALWAYS be sent to a question you have not already answered!)"

... I hope this makes it easier still for you to find more questions to answer. If you like, you can accomplish the same thing by hitting the link "Random Question" at the top of the page.

You can click that link as many times as you like, and never see a question you have already answered.

Enjoy!

Finding more questions to answer? (Working!)
Finding more questions to answer? (Working!)

Well folks, due to an unforeseen complication, the random question feature would work correctly only when it felt like it.

That complication (the coding error I made) has been fixed, and I hope you all enjoy being able to answer every question on the site if you so desire.

If you have any further suggestions, please head into the moderator forum and have your say. What? Not a moderator? Why not?

Finding more questions to answer?
Finding more questions to answer?

Hi there everybody!

Lately I have been getting requests from people who are looking to answer more questions than they can easily find. In response, I have been adding ways to help you help more people as easily as possible.

Some have simply been looking at the newly listed questions on the side-bar, which is a good start, but unless you are first in line you miss out on some great questions, and the person you could have helped also misses out on your answer.

The random question link is great... but you keep seeing questions you have already answered. Not any more! The random question link will now hide any questions you have already answered. :-)

I will be making the link more visible here in the next day or two, so that more people have a chance to see how much fun it is to use.

I hope everyone enjoys this as much as the beta-testers did.

Thank you all for making this site what it is!

DN.

Merry Christmas! A Gift From Razhie... (Now a tradition here)
Merry Christmas! A Gift From Razhie... (Now a tradition here)

For the FOURTH year running:

I thought you all might enjoy this as much as those on the moderator forum have, so here is a gift from Razhie:

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the net
hundreds were stirring and all were desperate.
Though each day had passed, right down to the last
they STILL had hundreds of questions to ask!

One user was stressed over reckless sex acts,
another was wishing their parents were lax.
A pet was quite sick and Mary was cruel
and dozens of guys were 'sooooooo nice, funny, and cool.'

There was love to be won and hate to endure.
One kissed a girl but still wasn't sure.
One was just bored with nothing to do,
and so many gift-givers STILL had no clue.

So off to Advicenators.com did they go,
with the hope that somebody there might just know.
And those dear advice-givers, so loyal and true
were still there a-posting what they would do.

DangerNerd kept the whole site up: safe, clean and wise.
While CFT was explained why you can't shrink just your thighs,
Solaris addressed one more 'cherry' query,
and Younggrandma dealt with the worst, and still remained cheery.

Rainbowcherrie and Razhie had just told half a town:
"You just cannot be pregnant so please dear calm down!"
When, what to their mystified browsers should appear
but a flash animation of Santa (and his reindeer.)

His jpegs, how jolly! His bits, oh so merry!
(Razhie's grasp of technology: a little bit scary.)
It was Santa alright, everyone would agree,
and he had something to say, to you and to me:

"You've all been so good and it's been a long year,
I've got something for you to bring you all cheer.
It's a question, but not of the usual sort:
It's clear, it's well written, it's unique and it's short."

"It tells you enough, but leaves nothing out.
It don't make excuses, it don't whine or pout.
It's simple, it's intriguing and a tad witty
In fact I would say this question's quite pretty!"

"This grand question is yours... it's just not quite here.
I'll send it your way in the new year.
But tonight all you advisers, for goodness sake,
get away from your computers and go take a break!"

Flash Santa then laughed and then tapped his nose
and with that his window swiftly popped close.
But they hear him exclaim, as their computers shut down,

"Merry Christmas to Advicenators.com! This world really needs you around!"

Server Move Completed?
Server Move Completed?

Hello everyone, according to plan "A"(Actually we are up to plan "L" now) the server move is completed.

Now begins the process of debugging anything that was broken in transit. If you see anything that looks odd, please forward as much info as possible to: dangernerd@gmail.com with a subject of: "Advicenators Bug Report!"

I will get back to you asap.

Thank you all for your patience.

DN.

P.S. I know the featured user stuff on the main page isn't working. It will in a day or so. No worries there.

Ok, so that was fun...
Ok, so that was fun...

We had a false start. For those of you who saw the site come back up, you weren't imagining it... it did... for about an hour.

Unfortunately all the servers and services that make Advicenators run now didn't quite get all sync'd up together.

After a couple grueling days with tech support, it is all better now. This is the theory, anyway.

Thank you all for making Advicenators the wonderful thing that it is.

Thank you all for your patience.

Most of all, thank you for not flooding my e-mail box with "I hate you because the service I don't pay for is off-line, you should DIE!" messages. ;-)

DN.

Surprise!!! We are moving your servers!!!
Surprise!!! We are moving your servers!!!

Hello everyone,

Apparently the datacenter where the machines that make Advicenators run are housed decided to just up and move everything to a new building. Charming, no?

The notice was short, and made shorter by my limited access right now, so there was very little prep time before the move.

We have taken the opportunity to migrate to bigger and badder servers in a new datacenter where they, hopefully, won't just decide to redecorate every once in a while.

We will update you when the changeover is complete.

Sorry for the trouble. There really wasn't anything at all we could do about it.

Happy New Year Advicenators!
Happy New Year Advicenators!

I hope this year brings you everything you need to become a better person... even if it isn't what you wanted.

Have a fantastic 2009! Let us make the very best of what is sure to be a very bumpy ride through the next year. We can do it! :-)

Server "upgrade" ...

Hello everyone,

While I was asleep, our web host upgraded us to oblivion. That is the reason the site has been weird for the last few hours.

I have the support people in the chat room now, and it should be resolved within the next hour.

I will update you, when things are back to normal, whatever that is. :-)

Thank you for your patience,

DN.

I Have NOT Died...

I Have NOT Died...

... at least not yet. :-)

Just thought I should dispel the rumor going around about my death, and explain my absence.

Things have been really exciting around the house here! While I am not ready to go into the details on that just yet, it has really caused me to re-evaluate things.

I have been active behind the scenes here, but haven't really had time to get personally involved with the user side of the site.

That all changes now.

For months I have been working outside my regular business in an effort to keep everything going.

I even spent a month in Montana (just returned from that) working for a company there. During that time, my wife did the best she could to keep things going here.

I will be working on the site full time, or as full time as I can and still eat.

My Gmail inbox currently, as of this minute, contains 26,988 UNREAD messages.

If you have e-mailed me, it is in your best interest to send again, as I could be MONTHS digging myself out of this hole.

This site is very important to me, and I feel like I haven't been here enough as of late.

I want you to know that I sincerely appreciate everything you guys do to make this site what it is, and will do everything I can to be worthy of all the help you have given me in making this site what it is today! :'-)

One more note... YG (younggrandma) is a truly amazing individual!

I know you knew that already... but are you ready for this? She bought gift memberships for:

ygsgirl

WiseAl

HectorJr

Razhie

... Just because she wanted to help the site and show appreciation to some of the users here.

Oh, and that reminds me... "WiseAl", is now "Alin75." (One of the privileges of paid accounts is that you can change your username as often as you like.)

Thank you all for your patience with me, as I work towards making this site sustainable.

Sincerely,

DN.

Site Insults and Apology!
Site Insults and Apology!

Hello everyone,

I am hoping most of you have seen the most critical thing which has ever been posted on this site:

The original complaint

... If you haven't read this, please do.

Today there is another post from the same user which I think you should all see:

The Sincere Apology

I hope you will all join me in accepting the apology as presented.

Everyone has had a bad day and done something less than good as a result.

Thanks for banding together and showing me that some of you DO care about the site.

Time For Categories...

Time For Categories...

Hello everyone!

Time for a category overhaul. I know it is long overdue, but the time is now.

If you have a category, or a whole LIST of categories, you would like to see included in the update, please e-mail them to me:

dangernerd@gmail.com

... When I have what I feel is a workable list from all your contributions I will start re-tooling the category selection.

I will most likely be re-writing the category handler from scratch. When it is done, the mods will be able to MOVE questions to the right categories. Won't that be nice?

So you are all ready to send me a nice list of categories? Great! Just one more thing... How should they be formatted?

If you only have one or two, just send them any old way.

What do you do if you want send a bunch of things?

Well, instead of sending me:

dogs,cats,birds,rodents,other

How about:

Pets->Dogs
Pets->Cats
Pets->Birds
Pets->Rodents
Pets->Other

... or something along those lines.

I will combine the best of everyone's lists and set everything up.

This is going to be a really big project, and I would like to thank you in advance for all your help!

I look forward to hearing from you.

DN.

P.S. I have a contest in mind for the near future. Any ideas for prizes would be appreciated. Pretty much all I have in mind is the iPod nano. Let me know what you think. $100-200 range.
