Advicenators Frequently Asked Questions

Columnist Ratings

Where do columnist ratings come from?
Your columnist rating is the average of the scores given to all your answers to public questions in the last 30 days. Every time someone rates you, your rating is updated.

How do I know what my rating is?
If you've been rated at least five times, it should be listed in your columnist info. It should also be reflected in the number of filled-in stars you have by your name in the columnist search pages.

I've been rated, but my rating isn't showing up.
You need to be rated at least five times to get nifty stars by your name or your ratings listed in your column.

When I look at my feedback page and count up ratings, the numbers don't match my average. Why?
There are several reasons the numbers may not match up. First, if the rating is over 30 days old, we don't count it. This gives every columnist a chance to have a "clean slate" if they've been here a while. Second, if the rating applies to a private question, we don't count it. It's a public thing.

I really want to see my rating calculated right now.

Someone left me negative feedback and now I'm mad.
Don't take it too seriously, it's just a website. And no, you can't change it.

Can moderators change ratings?
Level II moderators can change ratings, but it's still "one rating per advice", and they cannot rate themselves.

Can I ask people to rate me when answering their questions?
Sure, but a lot of people don't like being told "RATE ME!!!" when they get advice, so they'll probably give you 1s for that and we won't blame them.

How do I become *the* top rated columnist?
When order the columnists by ratings, we consider not only their rating but how many times they've been rated. So you have to be rated high and rated a lot.

How do I block out low-rated columnists?
If you don't want to see low-rated columnists, there's a section of your profile settings to block them out.
